Steve is an NHS Consultant Paramedic and Consultant HEMS Paramedic with significant experience of pre-hospital care both within ambulance Trusts and Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).
As an NHS Consultant Paramedic Steve is part of a small national group of senior clinical leaders working at this level within the NHS. Steve has organisation-level oversight of clinical governance and assurance as well as professional development. This includes the oversight of high level clinical risk and consultancy over potential serious incidents relating to organisational and individual practice.
Steve has a Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Clinical Practice as well as post-graduate qualifications in Healthcare Management and Leadership, Clinical Education and Pre-hospital Critical Care. Steve also holds the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care (Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh).
Steve is clinically active and provides both on scene and remote clinical leadership to pre-hospital clinicians across a range of medical and trauma incidents. Steve undertakes weekly clinical duties, including as part of the regional HEMS service and enhanced (critical) care team, which ensures he maintains a current portfolio of pre-hospital work.
Steve holds honorary positions with a number of UK universities and is involved with the education of both pre and post registration pre-hospital clinicians. Steve is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA).
Steve is the Research Lead for his organisation and oversees the organisation’s research portfolio with the responsibility for identification and setup for pre-hospital clinical research studies ranging from NIHR portfolio studies to small scale studies supporting academic projects. Steve has published within peer reviewed journals on a range of pre-hospital topics.
